"Too late" comes faster than we think
"I forget. I think I'm losing my mind. But the worst thing is when I remember again."
Clemence's grandmother suffers from Alzheimer's disease. Desperate, Clemence decides to kidnap her from the nursing home and take her to what she believes was her childhood home. An escape, a mission, a journey, a chance to reconnect... Or perhaps a final farewell?
Nowadays, more and more older people suffer from memory disorders that affect their daily lives. The challenges are enormous, both for them and for those around them. "Who are you?", "Where am I?" and "I forget" are just a few of the phrases that can shatter our entire reality when uttered by someone close to us.
At just 23 years old, Alix Garin presents her first comic book with Don't Forget Me. Winner of the New Talent Award at the "Quai des bulles" festival in Saint-Malo in 2017, the author drew inspiration from her own family experience, as her grandmother suffered from this serious disorder, to recount this precipitous decline, with tenderness and subtle humor. A work that reminds us that dementia is a cruel disorder that does not discriminate, and the least we can do is to remain close to our loved ones as long as they need us. A graphic novel that shook the Franco-Belgian comic scene and has already won over hundreds of thousands of readers internationally.
